Sunshine and warm toes in flip flops are soon slipping away from us. With our last few days of Summer ahead many of us have begun the task of organizing the state of our closets. If you're like me and are fairly new to veganism (just over year now). I am still in the midst of purging my beloved shoe collection. I can't imagine slipping those sad leather bits on my feet anymore. Most likely we will not be wearing raw fruit and veg on our feet like the bohemian glam image abouve. So where do we find stylish, affordable and ethically made vegan shoes right here in Vancouver? There are plenty of online shops found via instagram from couture to casual kicks. I wanted to focus on local spots where we can take those little creations for our feet on a test drive around the shop.
#1 Nice Shoes is an obvious local favourite within the vegan community as their entire collection is completely vegan!
Their selection ranges from smart, casual and sensible. Comfort shoes for the office, sturdy boots for hiking trails and weather protectant for those rainy days.
Address: 3568 Fraser St, Vancouver, BC V6V 4C6 Web: https://niceshoes.ca
#2 Fine Finds Boutique in Yaletown is one of largest distributors in Western Canada for Matt & Nat (ethical vegan shoes and purses). They currently have 7 styles and 3 more coming in shortly including knee highs. Check out these stylish and sophisticated warm Fall boots, the simple slips on, laid back flats and friendly to wear heels.
Address: 1014 Mainland Street Vancouver, BC V6B 2T4
#3 Nordstrom, yes at this posh abode you can find a selection of vegan footwear. They carry vegan friendly brands as Steve Madden's faux suede knee highs, Kendall + Kylie's glitter sock booties and Marc Fisher's flats and boots.
Address: Pacific Centre 799 Robson St, Vancouver, BC V7Y 0A2
#4 The Latest Scoop is a local boutique with four locations in the heart of Vancouver. They normally carry a mix of vegan and non vegan stylish booties and heels during the Fall/Winter Season. I am waiting confirmation on what's coming in for this season. Stay tuned for the update.
Address: Four locations in Vancouver; 2928 Granville St., 2470 Marine Dr., 159 Water St., 2242 W 4th Ave
#5 People Footwear, a locally based and international high-tech footwear brand. Keeping it casual and stylish in all that you do. I am crushing on the Waldo knit. Check them out online or at their local retailers including Nice Shoes.
#6 Steve Madden that's right when you hear Steve Maden you may automatically think leather. Yet over the last few years they have been adding more synthetics. Making a decent selection of shoes and most importantly boots for this Fall season fully free of leather. A couple of my favourites this season are the rounded toe Dorothy bootie and the seamless velvet inspired Gaze bootie in multiple colours.
Address: 1137 Robson St, Vancouver, BC V6E 1B5
Note: it's best to go for brands that use ethical materials and are ethically manufactured. Matt and Nat I am confident is one of those. I have not fully researched all the brands manufacturing standards carried in the above stores. If you find a pair or a few you love that is up to you to discover.
Love & cruelty free style!
